Line trimmers are quick and easy to use for trimming your lawn along the driveways and sidewalks. If the line stops moving and the pool is empty you must stop and replace it to continue your mission. The Craftsman weed trimmers make it easy to change the spool.
Step 1
To stop the trimmer, press the engine “On/Stop” switch.
Step 2
Let the trimmer cool down for a while. To remove dirt, grass and other debris, wipe the cutting head with a towel.
Step 3
Grab the rubber boot from the spark plug and pull it off. This will disengage the spark plug, so that the engine won’t start by accident.

Step 4
The tap button at the bottom of the trimmer should be facing upwards. Grab the tap button at the bottom of your trimmer and hold it in place.
Step 5
To remove all debris from the interior hub, wipe it with a towel. Then turn the trimmer line spool easily. Take the old spool, and any other line, out of the hub.
Step 6
Take the tape off a pre-wound trimmer liner spool. Take out approximately 6 inches of line and lock it in the notch. Then, insert the free end through the hole in the hub. Pull the line out of the notch by pressing the spool into a hub until it snaps.
- The tap button at the bottom of the trimmer should be facing upwards.
- Once the spool is in the hub, press the line out from the notch until it snaps.
Step 7
Place the hub back on the cutting head.

To make it easy to quickly reload trimmer lines without having to visit a store, keep an extra pre-wound reel on hand.

Craftsman replacements spools can be color-coded according to their weight. To ensure a long-lasting product, make sure you buy replacement spools that are the same color as your original. A thicker line can cause engine damage and premature failure.

Safety glasses, long pants, and a long-sleeve shirt are recommended when operating a string cutter.
